Our blue planet is in trouble, we are facing one of the biggest threats in history, PLASTIC. Trillions of pieces of plastic are floating in our oceans, and we can't ignore the fact that it's choking our blue planet. Plastic is one of the most durable materials and a carrier of disease that can spread E.coli bacteria and destroy our coral reefs.

Reports suggest that by 2050, there will be more pieces of plastic in the oceans than fish. Plastic is everywhere, in your face scrub, toothpaste and our clothes. Micro-plastic is possibly one of the most serious threats in human history. It is a tiny piece of plastic fragment less than 1mm in size and often originates from washing our of synthetic clothing. A study in the UK has revealed that over 700,000 micro-plastic fibres are released into our environment with every wash cycle.

Every time we wash a piece of clothing that is made of synthetic fibres such as polyester, recycled fishing nets or recycled plastic water bottles it sheds tiny plastic micro fibers into the wash cycle making its way down the drain and into the ocean.

Scientist are now worried because micro plastic has found its way into the food chain. They have discovered that tiny plankton are ingesting micro plastic. Micro plastic is now also found in small fish, muscles, clams, oyster and it's heading further up the food chain to some of the biggest ocean predators and subsequently into our bodies.

At Luna & Soulwe only use natural fibres for our garments. We are plastic free and all our packaging is made from sustainable, bio degradable materials. We understand that the majority of clothes contain micro plastic and recommend using a specific washing bagto avoid this.
